We, the Friends of St. James are very much alive and active.
The appeal to the Congregation for the Clergy, asking that the decision to close St. James be reversed, awaits that body's decision. We ask you to pray for a positive outcome for our appeal one that will enable St. James to continue its mission of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to all our community.
We have researched Lakewood demographics and the potential for growth. We have reviewed in depth St. James financial situation and the costs involved in restoration (which are less than was thought). We have studied the impact of closing on Lakewood Catholic Academy, and the importance St. James played in its formation and viability. We have had renowned architectural historians research the significance of this singular and beautiful work of art and the importance of this landmark building to Lakewoods future.
Based on all of this, we prepared a plan for St. James future which we believe addresses all these concerns and more. The plan proposes creating a more active and energetic St. James Parish, with a timetabled program for raising the necessary funds for restoring our historic Church.
We will continue to meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.

Visit the Friends of St. James booth at the 23rd annual Lakewood Community Festival at Madison Park on Saturday, September 11 beginning at 11:00 am.
The festival celebrates community, cultural heritage and families. We will have a display highlighting the history and beauty of Lakewood's first landmarked interior. Handouts, t-shirts and a DVD with the history and a visual tour of St. James Church will be available.

Saint James Church is located in Lakewood, Ohio, USA and is part of the Diocese of Cleveland. The church was founded in 1908 and is the founding parish for Lakewood and Rocky River.
Saint James Church is a living testimony to the dedication and hard work of a community that wanted to build a house of worship conveying its love and gratitude to God. The church contains the story of the community's faith and appreciation of God gifts. Saint James is filled with symbolic decorations and details that make the church an exquisite example of sacred art.
Saint James Church is an irreplaceable community asset and a significant cultural and architectural treasure for the region.
In March 2009 Bishop Richard G. Lennon announced over 50 church closings, including Saint James Church.
The Friends of Saint James was founded to stop the plan to close our church.
